Virtual Norwegian Pilot Client
Version: 1

1. Introduction

Welcome to the Virtual Norwegian Pilot Client (VNPC) — the official flight logging and tracking software for Virtual Norwegian pilots. VNPC is required for all flights to ensure that every flight hour logged is accurate, fair, and accepted by the airline.

VNPC was developed in-house for Virtual Norwegian, and is the only approved flight logger/tracker for logging flight time and submitting PIREPs.

2. About VNPC

VNPC was originally created by Even Rognlien (VNPC lead developer) and has been continuously improved since 2014. The software integrates with major flight simulators and captures essential flight data such as flight time, location, fuel burn, and networks used.

3. Installation

3.1 Minimum Requirements

To install and run VNPC, your system must meet the following requirements:

Operating Systems:

  • Windows (10, 11)
  • Linux
  • macOS

Flight Simulators:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS), 2020 and 2024
  • Flight Simulator X (FSX / FSX:SE)
  • Prepar3D (P3D)
  • X-Plane (XP) 11 and 12

Simulator Plugins

  • SimConnect for FSX / P3D (included with FSX SP2 or P3D)
  • X-Plane plugin (auto-installed/updated with VNPC)

Tip: Run both your flight simulator and VNPC with administrator privileges on Windows.

4. Installation Steps

  1. Download VNPC: Log in to the Virtual Norwegian site and download the latest VNPC installer.
  2. Run the Installer: Follow the on-screen prompts to install.
  3. Launch VNPC: Open VNPC and proceed to configuration.

5. Configuring Simulator Connection

In VNPC’s settings, select your simulator and how it will connect. Without correct simulator settings, flight data cannot be logged.

6. Logging Flights

6.1 Log In

Open VNPC and log in using your assigned pilot ID or email and password.

6.2 Select a Flight

  1. Choose a scheduled flight (from the Virtual Norwegian website or directly in VNPC).
  2. Set up your aircraft at your departure gate with parking brakes on and adequate fuel/payload.
  3. In VNPC, select:
    - Aircraft type
    - Registration
    - Network (e.g VATSIM, IVAO or Offline)
  4. Press Start Logging once ready.

VNPC will only start logging after parking brakes are released and only log airborne time.

Always verify the flight number and route before take-off — incorrect flights should be deleted and restarted.

7. Submitting Flights

  1. After landing and setting parking brakes, press Stop Logging.
  2. Press Upload to submit your flight.
  3. Confirmation will be shown once submission is successful.

If VNPC is closed before uploading, you can:

  • Manually upload the PIREP file (FLIGHTNUM_DATE.pirep) from:
    C:\Users\\Documents\Virtual Norwegian\Backup\

A flight cannot be submitted manually without the PIREP file.

8. Diverting to an Alternate Airport

If you must divert from your scheduled destination due to unforeseen circumstances:

  • Add a comment explaining the diversion, and
  • Create a new flight under the same flight number to return to the scheduled destination.

Flights without both steps completed within 48 hours will be rejected.

9. Handling Crashes

If your flight simulator or VNPC crashes mid-flight, you must manually submit your flight through our website, using the .pirep file generated by VNPC.

This file can be uploaded and submitted through "Submit Flight" in your Dashboard: Submit flight

10. Cabin Announcements Setup (Beta)

VNPC includes experimental support for cabin announcements. This feature allows the client to play audio files during different phases of flight to enhance immersion

How it works

VNPC looks for cabin announcement audio files in the following directory:

Documents/Virtual Norwegian/Cabin announcements

Both MP3 and WAV audio formats are supported. Any configuration and related settings are also stored in this folder.

Starter Pack

To get started, download the official Cabin Announcements Starter Pack and extract its contents into the folder above.

The starter pack contains a basic folder structure and example audio files.
The included README file simply instructs:

Extract the contents of this ZIP into “Documents/Virtual Norwegian/Cabin announcements”

Once the files are placed correctly, VNPC will automatically detect them on startup.

⚠️ Note:
This feature is currently in beta. Functionality, triggering logic, and configuration options may change in future versions of VNPC.

11. Exporting Dispatched Flight Plans

When your flight has been dispatched through Virtual Norwegian’s SimBrief integration, VNPC can export your flight plan in IFR format (e.g., .pln, .fms) compatible with supported simulators. This allows seamless loading of routes from dispatch to simulation.

(Note: SimBrief dispatching must be completed before exporting.)

12. Remote PC / SimConnect Setup

VNPC can be run on a different PC than the one running your flight simulator, provided that:

  • Both computers are on the same network, and
  • SimConnect is configured to allow remote connections.

In this setup, the flight simulator machine publishes data via SimConnect over the network, and VNPC on a remote PC reads it for logging. Ensure firewall and SimConnect configuration permit the connection.

SimConnect.xml example:

SimConnect.cfg, placed in the home directory of your remote computer:
[SimConnect.0] Protocol=IPv4 Port=5111 Address=XXX.XXX.X.XX

Remember to change IP to match your simulator PC's IP address.
Also make sure MSFS is allowed to communicate on your private or public network.
